Fly into Béziers, South France (BHX to BZR just over an hour) drive North 30 mins along the D909 and you’ll pass through a tunnel into a landscape dominated by limestone and impressive dolomitic cliffs, below these lie the vineyards of Domaine Clovallon. Planted in 1989 by disenchanted architect Catherine Roque with Pinot Noir, Viognier and Riesling vines; a secluded little backwater no one knew of in the hope the resulting wines would bring her success. Catherines sensitive biodynamic philosophy, thoughtful grape selection and deft touch result in delicate, complex creations now highly revered. Her daughter Alix now makes the wines with a style pushing the boundaries beyond her mother’s approach and by doing so Alix has found massive success. The wines are confident, delicious and fascinating.
We’ve fallen head of heels for Clovallon at Wine Freedom. Made in super small quantities, we’re very lucky to have Two wines from Clovallon for this project. Both wines are a combo of blended red and white grapes, organically farmed and made without additional SO2 (sulphur dioxide). The white ‘Blanc de Noir en Blanc’ is a Pinot Noir, Riesling and Viognier blend vinified white. Ridiculously delicious & crazy complex. The red ‘Indigenes’ is a blend of red and white grapes from all over the country - Alix invites her mates over post harvest; they all bring as many bunches as they can fit into their cars, chuck them in Alix’s tank, jump on it, let it ferment and then have a party! All the grapes and the names of those who bring them are on the label.
