Winemaker
Ancre Hill Estates is part of Wales's small community of biodynamic winegrowers. Careful vineyard work and an understanding of the local growing season guide the estate's decisions.
Wine
The 2018 Blanc de Blancs is Chardonnay alone, made in the estate's patient sparkling-wine style. Citrus and orchard fruit, with a fine mousse and a gently savoury edge from time in bottle. The acidity gives definition to the texture. Serve with oysters, smoked trout or a delicate first course, leaving it a little less cold than a simple aperitif fizz.
Origin
Monmouthshire offers sheltered vineyard positions on sandstone and mudstone, with some limestone at Ancre Hill. Chardonnay develops flavour gradually through a long season. Its retained acidity gives the sparkling wine a fresh foundation.
