AbstractBerry, herbal, savoury
Xinomavro with bright fruit and rounded tannins. Four months in old oak soften its edges without losing the grape’s earthy character.
Winemaker
Artisans Vignerons de Naoussa brings together growers from the hills of northern Greece. Xinomavro is their starting point: a local grape with firm tannins, lively acidity and the ability to age.
The growers work with organic vineyards and keep intervention in the cellar low. Skyphos extends their reach beyond Naoussa, drawing on vineyards elsewhere in Macedonia.
Wine
Skyphos is 100% Xinomavro from certified organic vineyards. Fermentation uses native yeasts, with 18 days on the skins, followed by four months in used 500-litre oak barrels.
That shorter stay in oak keeps the berry fruit clear, while giving the tannins time to round out. Red and dark berries lead into herbs and an earthy, savoury finish. There’s grip, but the acidity keeps it moving.
Origin
Macedonia lies in northern Greece, with Naoussa’s vineyards on the slopes of Mount Vermion. Skyphos carries the broader Macedonia designation, taking fruit from Naoussa and other growing areas in the region.
Limestone soils sit over granite and schist. Summers are hot, but altitude and mountain breezes temper the heat as the grapes ripen.
