Winemaker
Jan Matthias Klein leads Staffelter Hof in Kröv, where his family has made wine since 1805. The estate is certified organic and a member of ECOVIN. Alongside its classic Mosel Rieslings, Jan makes a separate range of experimental natural wines.
Origin
The Letterlay vineyard rises above Kröv in the Mosel Valley. Slate soils and steep slopes are part of the landscape here, giving Riesling a place to ripen slowly while holding on to its freshness.
Wine
Kröv Letterlay Kabinett 2024 is all white peach, grapefruit and a little honey, with a delicate herbal edge. There is sweetness here, carried lightly by bright acidity and just 8.5% alcohol. The fruit feels generous; the finish stays lively.
Raised in a large wooden cask, it is an easy bottle to open with gently spiced food, a fragrant Thai salad or a plate of cheese. Serve cool, around 8-10°C.
