AbstractBerry, herbal, earthy
A southern Rhône blend held back before release, arriving with developed flavour as well as fruit.
Winemaker
Christian and Nadia Charmasson farm Balazu des Vaussières in the southern Rhône. They work organically and make their wines with minimal intervention.
Hysope is held back for a long period before release. That patience is part of their approach: the southern varieties have time to settle together, and the wine reaches the table with developed flavours alongside its fruit.
Wine
Hysope blends Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. Christian and Nadia give it a long development before release, so the 2017 arrives with mature flavours alongside its southern fruit.
Dark berries meet bitter herbs, earth and a firm grip. Give it air; the savoury detail unfolds gradually.
Origin
The southern Rhône has a varied geological landscape of clay, limestone and alluvial terraces. Mediterranean summers bring concentrated fruit, with the mistral drying the vineyards.
