Local Ligurian grapes from steep coastal terraces, softened by a short maceration and time in old chestnut wood.

Winemaker
Heydi Bonanini began Possa in 2004, restoring neglected vineyards around Riomaggiore. On these steep Cinque Terre slopes, that means rebuilding dry-stone walls as well as tending vines.

He works without synthetic chemicals and keeps local varieties such as Bonamico and Canaiolo in cultivation. The narrow terraces leave little room for machinery; much of the work has to be done by hand.

Wine
U Neigru blends Bonamico and Canaiolo from the steep terraces above Riomaggiore. Native fermentation and five days on the skins are followed by ageing in used chestnut wood.

The short maceration keeps the tannins gentle. Cherry and red flowers come with a savoury edge, giving substance without heaviness.

Origin
Possaitara lies above the Ligurian Sea near Riomaggiore. Sandstone gravel and narrow stone-walled terraces define the vineyard ground.
