AbstractPlum, leafy, supple
The more approachable Maison Blanche blend, pairing Merlot's fruit with Cabernet Franc's savoury edge.
Winemaker
Maison Blanche brings together the Rapin and Despagne families' long connection with Bordeaux's right bank. The property at Montagne joined the family's holdings in the 1970s.
Nicolas Despagne farms Merlot and Cabernet Franc on clay, limestone and sand, using organic and biodynamic practices. Older releases are an important part of the range, offering the chance to taste the wines after their tannins have softened and more savoury flavours have developed.
Wine
Les Piliers is the estate's more immediate, approachable expression of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Plum and dark berries, with a leafy, savoury edge and supple tannin. The 2019 has enough structure for dinner, without demanding a long wait.
Origin
Montagne Saint-Émilion sits on Bordeaux's right bank, with clay-limestone and clay-sand soils across the estate. Atlantic influence moderates the growing season.
