AbstractPear, ripe, rounded
Cool fermentation preserves Marlborough Pinot Gris's fruit; lees ageing builds its dry, supple texture.
Winemaker
Dan Gillett founded Selection Massale in 2021 after working as a wine importer, distributor and retailer. He had begun making wine in 2018 with Sauvignon Blanc from Clos Henri in Marlborough.
The name refers to propagating vines from selected plants in a vineyard rather than using a single clone. The range includes this Pinot Gris, fermented cool in steel and aged on its lees.
Wine
The 2024 Pinot Gris was fermented cool in stainless steel, then aged on its lees to build texture while retaining fruit.
Pear and ripe orchard fruit, with a rounded, dry palate. The lees ageing gives enough texture for food, while the freshness keeps the finish comfortable.
Origin
Marlborough's long sunny days are followed by cool nights. Alluvial gravel and clay-based soils occur across its vineyard areas.
