AbstractBerry, earthy, delicate
Still Pinot Noir from sheltered Welsh vineyards, carrying the acidity of a long, cool season.

Winemaker
Ancre Hill farms near Monmouth in the sheltered southeastern corner of Wales. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Triomphe grow on sandstone and mudstone, with limestone occurring in parts of the estate.

The vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically, with full Demeter accreditation achieved in 2014. The range includes still Pinot Noir, traditional-method sparkling wines and red pét-nat, making quite different use of the fruit from this cool climate.

Wine
This is Ancre Hill's still Pinot Noir, alongside its better-known sparkling wines.

A light-footed Pinot Noir, with red berry fruit, an earthy thread and a fresh finish. The attraction is in the detail rather than concentration.

Origin
The vineyards lie near Monmouth in south Wales, on sandstone and ancient mudstone with limestone occurring at Ancre Hill. Sheltered positions help the grapes ripen within a cool season.
