AbstractBerry, woodland, fine
Old mixed vineyards beneath the Serra da Estrela supply a deeper, more structured Dão blend.

Winemaker
António Madeira grew up in France and trained as an engineer before returning to his family's part of the Dão. He began making wine in 2010 and moved back to Portugal with his family in 2017.

He works small, old vineyards beneath the Serra da Estrela. Many contain several local grape varieties planted together, which he preserves rather than replacing with uniform blocks. Organic and biodynamic practices guide the farming.

Wine
Vinhas Velhas comes from old mixed vineyards beneath the Serra da Estrela, with Jaen, Baga, Tinta Amarela and other local varieties growing together.

It has more depth and structure than Tinto. Red fruit, woodland notes and fine tannin are held together by the acidity of this cooler, granite-rich part of the Dão.

Origin
The older parcels lie in granite country beneath the Serra da Estrela. Elevation and cooler nights extend the ripening season in this part of the Dão.
