AbstractCherry, herbal, earthy
Straight Sangiovese from Sammontana, distinct from its red-and-white Alberese blend and fuller Chianti Superiore.
Winemaker
Fattoria di Sammontana is a family farm at Montelupo Fiorentino, west of Florence. Daniele and Dario continue its fourth generation of farming, with vines growing alongside olive groves and other crops.
The vineyards are farmed organically, using biodynamic practices. Legumes and grasses are sown between the rows after harvest to cover and feed the soil. Alongside traditional Tuscan reds, the family makes white blends and rosé fermented in clay.
Wine
Straight Sangiovese from the family's limestone-rich Tuscan vineyards. It differs from Alberese, which includes white Trebbiano, and from the more structured Sanfirenze Chianti Superiore.
Cherry, dried herbs and bright acidity, with a gentle but clear tannic grip.
Origin
The farm lies around Montelupo Fiorentino, west of Florence. Limestone-rich ground forms part of the local Tuscan landscape.
