AbstractPear, citrus, waxy
Godello from century-old mountain vines, with a year on its lees bringing depth to a taut, saline white.

Winemaker
Teresa López and Luis Peique began O Cabalín with their friend Hugh McCartan, recovering old vineyards in Teresa’s home region of Valdeorras. Many parcels had been abandoned for years. Clearing scrub and careful pruning brought the vines back into production.

The work remains small and hands-on. They farm organically, pick by hand and ferment with native yeasts in their stone cellar at Vilamartín. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration, with a little sulphur added at bottling.

Wine
A Espedrada is Godello selected from old mixed vineyards on the west-facing O Cabalín slopes and around Viladequinta. Some vines were planted between 1919 and 1929.

Hand-picked grapes spend 48 hours on their skins before fermenting in 500-litre French oak barrels. The wine stays there on its lees for 12 months, without stirring. That short skin contact and long lees ageing give it substance beneath the acidity.

Pear, lemon zest and chamomile, with a waxy texture and a dry, saline finish. A white with breadth, held together by its mountain freshness.

Origin
Carballeda de Valdeorras lies in mountainous eastern Galicia. Small, steep vineyards sit among chestnut trees, oaks and wild herbs around Viladequinta, El Robledo and Carballeda.

Shallow slate soils and the cool conditions of these elevated slopes shape the wine. The surviving mixed plantings preserve older local varieties alongside the Godello selected for A Espedrada.
