Jan Matthias Klein leads Staffelter Hof in Kröv, where his family has made wine since 1805. The estate is certified organic and a member of ECOVIN. Alongside its classic Mosel Rieslings, Jan makes a separate range of experimental natural wines.
Origin
Kröv Steffensberg is one of Staffelter Hof's prized vineyard sites, with old vines rooted in grey slate. This is Kröv's Steffensberg, close to the estate in the central Mosel.
Wine
Kröv Steffensberg GeGe 2022 gives Riesling a little more depth and breadth. Apple and lime sit alongside smoky notes, a suggestion of honey and a hazelnut edge on the finish. It has plenty of fruit, but finishes dry.
The estate lists this vintage as trocken, with 6.5 g/L residual sugar. Serve cool rather than ice cold, and give it a little time in the glass. Good with roast chicken, richer fish dishes or mushrooms.
