AbstractBerry, herbal, stony
Cinsault, Lledoner Pelut and Carignan give a more open, supple side of high-altitude Faugères.
Winemaker
Catherine Roque was an architect before becoming a winegrower in the Languedoc. At Mas d'Alezon she works some of Faugères' higher vineyards, where schist and elevation give a cooler setting than the plains below.
The farming is organic and biodynamic. Local varieties include Cinsault, Carignan and Lledoner Pelut, a close relative of Grenache. Her reds retain the herbs and ripe fruit of the south, with notably light extraction.
Wine
Le Presbytère combines Cinsault, Lledoner Pelut and Carignan from Mas d'Alezon's high schist vineyards. These varieties give a more open, supple wine than Montfalette.
Red berries and herbs lead into a dry, stony finish. Southern fruit stays light enough for a slight chill.
Origin
Mas d'Alezon occupies elevated schist vineyards in Faugères. Height brings a cooler rhythm to this southern landscape.
