AbstractPear, ripe, rounded
Pinot Gris offers the broader side of Thörle's whites, with enough acidity to balance the body.

Winemaker
Christoph and Johannes Thörle took over their parents' Saulheim estate in 2006. They reduced yields, increased vineyard handwork and made hand-picking central to the harvest.

Their vineyards sit on limestone, marl and loess in Rheinhessen. Riesling and the Burgundian varieties dominate the range, from estate wines to individual vineyard bottlings. Organic farming continues the changes the brothers began when they returned home.

Wine
Grauburgunder is Pinot Gris from parcels around Saulheim. Brief skin contact before pressing draws out aroma and texture. Fermentation and ageing take place mainly in stainless steel, with a small portion in large barrels.

Pear and yellow fruit give a broader palate than the Rieslings. The finish stays dry and fresh.

Origin
Saulheim lies within Rheinhessen's limestone, marl and loess country. Its sheltered climate gives Pinot Gris enough warmth to develop breadth.
