AbstractCitrus, acacia, rounded
Cortese from near Gavi itself, with fine-lees ageing adding texture to its naturally brisk fruit.
Winemaker
Giordano Lombardo is a small farm near the medieval village of Gavi. Vines around Cascina San Martino sit beside oak woodland, with Cortese and Barbera the local varieties.
The estate farms biodynamically. Its Cortese grows on white clay-limestone marl, where weather from the Apennines and the Ligurian sea meets. Lees ageing adds texture to the naturally brisk fruit.
Wine
Cortese is pressed and given time on its fine lees, adding texture without losing freshness.
Citrus, a hint of acacia and a rounded, quietly mineral palate. The finish is fresh, with enough length for food.
Origin
The vineyard surrounds Cascina San Martino near the medieval village of Gavi. White clay-limestone marl and the influence of both the Apennines and Ligurian sea define the setting.
