AbstractApricot, floral, rounded
Viognier from sandy ground below the Crau plateau, aged in steel to preserve its fragrance.
Winemaker
Julien Mus studied viticulture and winemaking in Beaune before returning to his family vineyards near Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The grapes had gone to the local cooperative; in 2005 he founded Domaine de la Graveirette and began making his own wines.
He farms biodynamically around Bédarrides and Courthézon. The parcels include sandy ground, alluvial soils and stony terraces. Alongside Rhône appellation wines, his Vin de France bottlings make room for varieties such as Merlot, Marselan and Viognier.
Wine
Lou Ravi is Viognier aged in stainless steel, keeping the emphasis on fragrance and texture rather than oak.
Apricot and flowers open into a rounded, gently textured palate. Viognier's generosity is here, but the finish keeps its shape.
Origin
The vines occupy sandy, alluvial ground below the Crau plateau, southeast of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This is a lower-lying part of the southern Rhône rather than one of its famous stone-covered slopes.
