AbstractCitrus, herbal, brisk
Young-vine Sauvignon from clay and tuffeau, naturally fermented in steel beneath the estate's vineyards.
Winemaker
Vincent Roussely returned to his family's property at Angé in 2001, becoming the fourth generation to make wine there. The estate is certified organic, with horses used in some of the older vineyards.
The cellar is dug into tuffeau beneath the vines. Its steady temperature allows slow, spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel tanks fitted into the rock. Sauvignon Blanc dominates the vineyards, with younger parcels for L'Escale and much older vines for Chenonceaux.
Wine
L'Escale is Sauvignon Blanc from younger vines on clay and tuffeau. Native yeasts start fermentation in stainless steel, and the wine is bottled in the summer after harvest.
It is the direct, fruit-led counterpart to the old-vine Chenonceaux. Citrus and fresh herbs lead into a brisk, dry palate.
Origin
Angé sits beside the Cher within Touraine. Clay, limestone and flint run through the local vineyards.
