AbstractBerry, herbal, savoury
A dry Tuscan rosé pairing Sangiovese with Sanforte, a less familiar local grape.
Winemaker
Cosimo Maria Masini occupies the hill around Villa La Selva at San Miniato, between Florence and Pisa. Vineyards grow alongside olive groves and other crops on land shaped by ancient marine deposits.
Francesco De Filippis leads the biodynamic farming. Sangiovese and the local Sanforte share the vineyards with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, giving the estate both traditional Tuscan varieties and different possibilities for blending.
Wine
Matilde is a rosé of Sangiovese and the local Sanforte variety.
Red berry fruit with a savoury edge and a clean, dry finish. Enough shape for food, without making a simple glass of rosé feel like work.
Origin
The vineyards sit at San Miniato in inland Tuscany. Hills, cultivated ground and olive groves shape the setting, with sedimentary soils reflecting the area's ancient marine history.
